As a DJ who's been in the game for 20 years, I've noticed more and more event planners who aren't quite sure what they're aiming for. They haven't nailed down their event concept in a way that's easy to share, and they might not know much about music beyond what they see on social media or an average club night. I want to help you get a better grasp on the terms and definitions in dance culture because, in the end, it'll help set clear expectations for everyone involved.

I'm putting together a new series that breaks down the lingo in dance culture. It's clear that a lot of folks who are just getting into the dance party scene might not be familiar with the different vibes and sounds that come with it. This can be super helpful if you're planning events, booking music talent, or just looking for cool parties to hit up as a dancer or to hang out.

In this exploration, we will delve into the diverse world of dance music genres, over the past 50 years. This journey spans from the various musical and cultural movements that overlapped in the 1970s and 1980s to the highly commercialized saturation seen today.

Stay tuned as we get into it:)
