I don't want to plan a rave but I still want a dance party at my event

Planning a dance party can be a blast without a big festival production. Here’s how you can create a concept that is both fun and fabulous.

Theme and Atmosphere (Dr. Dream loves a good theme!)

- **Choose a Theme**: Pick a theme that’ll get your guests grooving, like a retro night disco night, or a throwback to the '80s or '90s. - **Venue**: Your options are as vast as your dance moves—consider a spacious outdoor patio, a venue that books rooms with a dancefloor for private events. - **Lighting**: Set the mood with soft lighting, string lights, or colored LEDs. Avoid strobe lights.

Music to set the vibe

Snag a DJ that understands your theme and knows what you want. Listen to their sample mixes and have a short meeting with them before booking so you both are on the same page. - **Sound System**: Most professional DJs will have a mobile sound system they can provide if the venue does not have a house sound system. NOTE: just because the DJ has a sound system does not mean that they have a full theatrical lighting set up at their disposal. Most DJs will have access to lights that will light the DJ booth/stage ONLY not create ambiance for the whole venue. This needs to be discussed when booking.

Guest Experience

- **Invitations**: Send out eye catching invites that scream your theme. Don’t forget the when, where, and what to wear! - **Dress Code**: Encourage your guests to dress the part—it’s all about enhancing the party vibes. - **Refreshments**: Keep the party fueled with drinks and snacks. A mix of boozy and booze-free options, plus easy-to-munch finger foods, will keep everyone happy.

Activities and Engagement

- **Dance Competitions**: Host dance-offs with silly prizes to get everyone busting a move. - **Photo Booth**: Set up a photo booth with props that match your theme so guests can snap some goofy pics. - **Interactive Elements**: Throw in some dance tutorials or group dances to coax even the shyest wallflowers onto the floor.

Safety and Comfort

- **Space for Relaxation**: Have a chill-out zone where guests can catch their breath and chat. - **Health and Safety**: Make sure the venue is up to snuff with health and safety rules. Keep water handy and think about your guests’ comfort. By nailing these elements, you’ll throw a dance party that’s all about fun and connection, without chaos.
