Dr. Violet Dream is a Kansas City native whose passion for music has transcended borders and entertained audiences across the United States for over 15 years. With fun-loving energy, selection versatility, and a knack for delivering funky sounds, she is a sought-after DJ in the area and specializes in boutique events.

Every event that is booked with Dr. Dream is different as each performance opportunity is customized specifically for the organizer and audience. Event types include nightclub gatherings, art gallery exhibitions, and occasionally charity functions or commercial events that are wanting a unique experience outside of the box. What sets us apart from the typical DJ is our wide range of musical knowledge, versatility, and creativity.

What is Dr. Dream's educational background and how does it influence the music she plays?

At her core, Dr. Violet Dream is a musician who began classical training in string instruments at the age of 5 all the way through post collegiate level and she still enjoys revisiting the Suzuki method purely for enjoyment. When she was 15 she began focusing on different languages outside of English (specifically Spanish, Portuguese, German, Arabic, French, Japanese, Korean) which came easily since music and spoken language both share communication and expression through sound. During this time her world also massively expanded through the discovery of electronic music, particularly Drum & Bass and House.

During her teenage years, she began exploring music therapy and ancient musical traditions in an academic setting which led her to producing, hosting, and DJing a radio show that explored the intersections of various musical dance genres. (Did you know that every human culture on Earth has created its own form of music and dance? It is really amazing to recognize how they are all related!) To improve her radio show, she taught herself how to beat match and mix in key by ear using vinyl records and Technics 1200s turntables. Her first DJ residency outside of radio started in 2006, at a venue in midtown Kansas City called The Hangout (now June's Night Club). She has been consistently playing special events across the United States ever since.

Each event is an opportunity to weave a tapestry of varying genres and musicalities that can include lyrics in multiple languages. However, at the foundation of every performance the most important element is creating an atmosphere that is fun and uplifting, while enjoying sounds and movement together.
